Hyperbaric Simulation Training Supports Global TBM Deployment

Hyperbaric Simulation Training Supports Global TBM Deployment
As part of Specialist Plant Associates’ ongoing commitment to delivering a market-leading service in the provision of Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and operational teams for global projects, we recently hosted Hyperbaric / Compressed Air Works Simulation training at our Wellingborough facility ahead of site mobilisation.
Pictured is the Herrenknecht AVN 1800 TBM with its dedicated operational team undergoing pre-deployment hyperbaric simulation, a key part of our preparation for compressed air tunnelling works.
This vital stage of training includes:
- Workforce selection through formal hyperbaric medical assessments
- Completion of a project-specific hyperbaric training programme, covering all operational, health, safety, and emergency procedures required for the project
- Delivery through a blend of technical instruction, practical hands-on simulation, and continuous evaluation

Additional training was provided during the session, including tool change procedures and maintenance tasks, delivered in line with UK best practice, legislation and industry guidance.
Our training programmes are led by experienced specialists with extensive knowledge of hyperbaric and compressed air techniques, ensuring our teams are fully prepared to work safely, competently and confidently in high-pressure environments.
This proactive, safety-led approach ensures our people are site-ready and that our delivery remains reliable and compliant across global tunnelling projects.
