At Specialist Plant and across the Joseph Gallagher Group, the health, safety and wellbeing of our people are our top priorities. We believe that creating a safe, supportive and respectful working environment not only protects our workforce, but also drives successful outcomes across the board – from project delivery and profitability to client satisfaction.

Our Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality and Training (SHEQT) team are therefore invaluable to helping ensure each of our sites maintain a safe and happy working environment for our people.

Empowering Safety Through Competence

Safety in the workplace is and should be expected, but cannot be achieved without the required levels of competency. As a family business, we are proud to invest in training and development for our people, across all levels of the business.

Proactive Health and Wellbeing Support

Our approach to wellbeing is proactive, inclusive, and continuous. Key initiatives include:

  • Monthly health awareness campaigns on topics such as mental health, nutrition, cancer screening and physical fitness.
  • Regular health checks offered to all staff.
  • Awareness talks and toolbox briefings on physical safety, mental health, and wellbeing.
  • 54 Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) trained and present across all sites, providing immediate peer-to-peer support.
  • Access to a confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) through HealthHero, offering professional advice and support 24/7.

A Culture of Care

We recognise and reward teams and individuals who go above and beyond to keep themselves and others safe:

  • 627 Best Practice Awards were issued across the Joseph Gallagher Group in 2024.
  • Mental Health Champions are active across projects, sites and offices.
  • Our Mindfulness Diploma graduate has become a wellbeing ambassador, sharing practical tools with colleagues.
  • Our growing community of dedicated mental health champions (many of whom speak multiple languages) on site and in our offices have a clear purpose to support our people and continue to drive positive change.
  • We also offer 24/7 access to HealthHero, our Employee Assistance Programme, providing confidential support for physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
