After a complete and thorough overhaul, Specialist Plant's Schaeff 112 Excavator is ready to be put back into action - This time with Joseph Gallagher Limited (JGL) at their site with Skanska in Cambridge.

Towards the end of October, JGL began the tunnelling works at the site of the new Papworth Hospital, which will provide patients, staff and the local community with a world-class healthcare facility, covering an area of 40,000m2. Specialist Plant have been supplying shaft sinking and grouting equipment throughout including, Air Receivers and SVEBRA Lightweight Pipework to over the coming weeks. 

The Schaeff 112 is a 17.5 tonne excavator with an integrated centre chain conveyor and loading apron. The machine is capable of running using either diesel 63kW engine, or an electric 55kW motor. It has the option to use both a ripper tooth and a mucking bucket, making it a very versatile in soft ground tunnel excavation.
