Oxy/Acetylene Gas System

In November 2014, Dragados-Sisk Joint Venture (DSJV) approached Specialist Plant for help with stripping out their Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs). In order to cut the two machines out of their respective caverns, huge quantities of oxy/acetylene would be required underground and into the running tunnels at Farringdon Eastern Ticket Hall. Specialist Plant helped DSJV by developing a gas system which would pipe the gas from the surface. This meant no gas bottles were needed underground, significantly reducing the risks of such a project.

Membrane Installation Cage

Joseph Gallagher Limited, working in partnership with Costain-Skanska Joint Venture (CSJV) at Eleanor Street (part of the Crossrail project), needed to work on installing the waterproof membrane lining for their shaft. To accomplish this, they came to Specialist Plant looking for something they could use, similar to a building cage, that would not tear or puncture the waterproof lining.

Incline Rail System

In June 2014, Costain-Laing O'Rouke Joint Venture (CoLOR JV) approached Specialist Plant for a safe means of excavating a heading at the bottom of a pre-existing passenger access stairway in London Underground's Bond Street station. This would involve running the muck in skips, up stairs, whilst men continued to work at the bottom - a situation which could leave them in a high risk situation if the problem was not dealt with properly.
